The oily scent of fish stains the air Salt rusts the doors The ocean wind blows strong and fair Sand clots the floors. The rocks are battered black and blue Waves kick the shores The seagulls swoop and caw and coo Water swirls and roars. The sea-side house rocks and creaks Storms start to snore The baying gale screams and shrieks Rain pours and pours. The calm eye stares down the house Paint peels and soars The storm gains speed like a mouse Boards wash ashore. The skies clear of black clouds No more, no more The house is gone with the crowds It lost the war.

In a quiet countryside On a quiet rural farm There once lived a girl Who knew no harm. Sheltered was she But allowed to roam One day she found herself In the woods all alone. In the dark dank woods She began to wander Lost she soon became In those woods down yonder. The girl, so sheltered Was lost and scared She found herself a river And crossed she dared. Staring off to sea on the cold boardwalk on a cold morning I think of the things that keep you up at night The little monsters that nag and tug drawing circles under your eyes. I think about these little beasties on the grey city street on a grey afternoon The worries and frets that plague our dreams The useless little brats that push and pull driving your brain insane. Laying under the covers on an empty bed on an empty night My tired mind is raided with the little things The horrid little fiends that aren’t really so terrible keeping me awake with no reason at all.
